Last Spring I decided to set myself a goal.

I wanted to run a fun 5k.  I wasn’t a runner but I wanted to do it.

I grabbed a couple girlfriends who I knew would be up for it and we signed up for the Color Me Rad 5k in Boston.

I trained using the Couch 2 5K app on my phone…which if you are not a runner I HIGHLY recommend using this app.

I will be honest, when I first started running I hated it.  Despised it.  I hated my life with every step during my run.  However, once it was over I felt great.  Over time though, that feeling went away and I actually started to enjoy running.  Crazy, right?

The Color Me Rad race was so much fun.  We made our own tank tops using mens white t-shirts, wore white knee high socks and were ready for COLOR!

As this was my first 5k of any kind I had a blast!  Running through the color tunnels and having your skin covered in pink, blue, yellow, purple, and red made running so much more enjoyable.  My friends helped too with their encouragement to keep going.  I didn’t even mind the color dust all over my face, in my ears, and in my armpits….which were discovered later on.

And I wanted to do it again!

In December, having already been bitten by the running bug and in need of the adrenaline, I ran my 2nd 5k.  This time I brought Hunter along with me.

Together we ran The Ugly Sweater run.

I enjoyed every  moment of this race.  Being it was my 2nd race, I didn’t need the push to keep going like I did the first run.  Having been consistently running made it much easier.  I enjoyed the race and ran at my own pace.

My son however, took off right from the start and left me behind in his dust.  Literally.

He finished the race in 20 minutes…having to wait 15 minutes for the tortoise he calls mom to cross the finish line.  But no matter it was still fun.  And some of the Ugly Sweaters we saw were so hideous and hilarious.  I love seeing people dress up for these runs.

I won’t be running any marathons anytime soon….if ever…. but I am so down with more of these fun runs!  Bring on the 5ks!
